Cruise to The Best Caribbean Wildlife Encounters

animal cruise

On our first Zodiac excursion, I watched a brown bear and two cubs cross over a small waterfall while plucking salmon from the water, less than 20 yards from our boat. The normal price of this cruise is around $4,800 per person, but as a prize winner, I received the trip for free, which included food and nonalcoholic drinks onboard. In August, I paid for my own flight from Portland, Oregon, where I'd just finished 70 days of camping and volunteering for AmeriCorps, to Sitka, Alaska, to depart on the cruise. Whether whale watching in Alaska or scuba diving with Caribbean sea creatures, our guests can spot a lineup of wildlife just as varied as the more than 270 destinations we visit. The Arctic is the Land of the Midnight Sun and, yes, that means that during the summer months, the sun is still out at midnight (and later still).

KultureCity Sensory Bags can be checked out for the duration of the cruise (on a complimentary and first-come, first-served basis) by visiting Guest Services or one of our Youth programs. Each bag contains items to help calm, relax and manage sensory overload, and include comfortable noise- canceling headphones, fidget tools, a visual feeling thermometer, and a KultureCity VIP lanyard, to help the staff easily identify a guest. Accessible routes are available throughout most areas of the ship and signs are posted to assist you in locating these pathways.

Hiking on Alaska Glacier Tours

If a cooler is not available, our Medical Center can assist guests with refrigeration needs (accessible during operating hours of the Medical Center only). Due to medical needs, guests may bring pre-packaged, frozen meals and certain beverages (Ensure, etc.). However, we need to know in advance to coordinate boarding of the pre-approved items. If pre-approval is not provided, prohibited items will be confiscated on embarkation day. Carnival makes available to all guests who require them a visual-tactile, cabin alert system that notifies room occupants of a door knock, a telephone call, the alarm clock, or a smoke-detection event. A TTY (teletypewriter) is also available to communicate with Guest Services, 24 hours a day.

EXPECT PARADISE ON EXTRAORDINARY EXPEDITION

Accessible routes are available throughout most areas of the ship and signs areposted to assist you in locating these pathways. In addition to the main dining rooms, each ship offers a variety of accessible dining options within LidoDeck casual dining areas and other restaurant venues. On another excursion, five humpback whales breached right in front of us and shook the boat when they fell back into the water. Even though I knew the trip would be a wildlife cruise, these animal sightings were more frequent and immersive than I'd imagined.

Whether you go on a vigorous hike or float peacefully, your breath will be taken away with your vacation to enjoy the best of Alaska whale watching and wildlife experiences. Even the sky dances when the Northern Lights come out to play, and each of the glaciers have their own personality. Witness the wonders of breaching whales at Kenai Fjords National Park, or play with brightly colored puffins as you explore the harmony of the Alaskan ecosystem.

Do you provide accessible transfers from the airport to the cruise port?

Just be prepared to pay almost as much for your pet to cruise as you'll pay for yourself. Prices are in the region of $1,000 per dog and from $1,000 to $1,600 per cat. (Cats require two kennels -- one for the litter box and one for the cat.) Teacup-size dogs and up to two cats can share a kennel, but larger pets will need their own. Perhaps just as cute as puffins on my cuteness scale, llamas and alpacas are some of my favorite animals because they are so fluffy and majestic.

Only epi-pens, self-using inhalers, self-administered diabetic testing equipment, self-administered insulin and glucose tablets are permitted in Youth Programs. Dining rooms menus can be provided in an electronic PDF file, readable via screen-reading software. You can also access information directly on your phone via the Carnival HubApp. Please inform the Guest Access Department at the time of booking, or at yourearliest possible convenience, if you need a sign language interpreter.

The Best Alaska Cruises

Apparently, llamas and alpacas are so trendy that they’ve become more popular than unicorns (yes, really!). You are most likely to see bald eagles while cruising in Alaska, where there is an estimated 30,000 bald eagles. However, if you’re cruising along the coasts of the United States, such as Oregon, California and New England, you might get lucky seeing a bald eagle as well.

Spyhopping orcas stand vertically in the water, checking out the view above the surface. Whale-watching excursions from Kenai Fjords National Park, a quick five-minute car ride from the port at Seward, allow you to view these gentle giants against a glacial backdrop as they graze past your boat.

Facilities, services and accessibility across ports of call vary significantly and accessibility may not be available for shore excursions or in certain ports of call due to limited infrastructure and other factors. We want our guests with mobility limitations to be able to enjoy their time ashore, and where possible, we will do our best to secure accessible tours, but options may be limited or non-existent altogether. Facilities, services and transportation equipment outside the United States may not be required to be ADA compliant. Carnival is not responsible for accessibility in foreign ports of call or for restrictions imposed by shore excursion providers that are not owned by Carnival. Additionally, numerous factors including weather, tidal conditions, and other safety concerns can impact the ability for an accessible tour to be safely operated.

There are an estimated 30,000 bald eagles throughout the state, and we spotted at least one every day -- soaring overhead, swooping down to pluck a fish from the water or surveying their surroundings from large nests in trees along the shoreline. As our Zodiac zipped through the waters of the Inian Islands, we heard the colony of Steller sea lions before we saw them. This is not the friendly, high-pitched barking noise we'd heard from California sea lions -- imagine a cross between a mooing cow, a grunting pig and a croaking bullfrog, and you'll come close.

Additionally, if the ship is calling on a water shuttle port, the captain will make a determination as to whether guests may disembark with their device, given prevailing maritime conditions and water shuttle limitations. Guests wishing to disembark the vessel on their device must also be able to safely navigate the angle of the gangway while the ship is docked in port. Guests must be prepared to collapse their device so it can be safely stored in a way that allows for safe exit from their stateroom. If bringing a scooter, please bring one that can collapse or fold so that it may be stored in the closet or underneath the vanity area.
